SDMO V400U II Diesel Generator

The SDMO V400U II is a heavy duty diesel generator built around a Volvo TAD1344GE engine and an SDMO AT01741T alternator. Delivering 400 kWe standby power, it is engineered for facilities that need serious backup capacity with minimal downtime.

Engine and Alternator Performance

The Volvo TAD1344GE engine driving the V400U II is a 6 cylinder, in line, turbocharged unit with 12.78 litres of displacement and an electronic governor holding frequency regulation within plus or minus 0.5 percent. It produces a maximum standby power of 449 kW at rated RPM, giving the genset strong headroom under variable load conditions. 

On the electrical side, the AT01741T alternator is a three phase, four pole unit with a 0.80 power factor and a continuous nominal rating of 495 kVA at 40°C. It runs on a single direct coupled bearing without collar or brush, and its automatic voltage regulation keeps total harmonic distortion under 1.5 percent at no load and under 2 percent on load.

SDMO V400U II Control Panel Options

Every V400U II ships with the TELYS control panel as standard, a display built around a large screen, buttons, and a navigation wheel. TELYS handles electrical measurements like voltage, frequency, and amperage, tracks engine parameters including oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and battery voltage, and flags alarms for conditions such as failure to start, overspeed, or low fuel.

For larger installations, the optional APM802 system offers a full touchscreen interface built for power plant level management, with communication functions designed around the IEC 61131-3 standard. It comes standard on generating sets above 275 kVA that are configured for coupling.

Build Quality and Cooling System

The V400U II is built on a mechanically welded steel chassis with antivibration suspension to reduce operational stress and noise. Its radiator is rated for wiring temperatures up to 48 to 50°C and uses a mechanical fan with a protective grille available as a CE option. 

The cooling system holds 44 litres of glycol ethylene coolant and manages a maximum water temperature of 107°C, while the unit is delivered pre filled with oil and coolant rated to negative 30°C. A main line circuit breaker and 24V charging alternator and starter round out a design meant for dependable startup in demanding conditions.

Soundproofed Enclosure Options

For sites that require noise control, the V400U II is available with the M228 soundproofed enclosure. This version brings acoustic pressure down to 86 dB(A) at 1 metre and 76 dB(A) at 7 metres, while increasing dry weight to 4080 kg and holding the same 470 litre tank capacity as the compact version. A larger containment version, the M228 DW, extends tank capacity to 1368 litres for extended runtime applications, with dimensions of 4527 mm long, 1410 mm wide, and 2700 mm high.

Documentation and Included Features

Each V400U II is delivered with a 9 dB(A) silencer supplied separately, a DC starting battery with electrolyte, and a full manual for use and installation. With prime power rated for unlimited annual operating hours under ISO 8528-1, the V400U II is built to serve as either a primary power source or a dependable standby solution for critical facilities.
