Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency
The Cummins QSK38 at the core of this generator is a 12-cylinder V-type, 4-stroke turbocharged engine running at 1800 RPM for 60 Hz output. It produces a gross standby output of 1376 kWm (1845 bhp), with a net output of 1326 kWm (1778 bhp) after accounting for ancillary loads, delivering 1250 kVA to the generator terminals.
The engine's Modular Common Rail fuel System (MCRS) uses electronic fuel pumps capable of injection pressures up to 1600 bar, eliminating mechanical linkage adjustments and optimizing combustion efficiency across all load levels.
Fuel consumption scales intelligently with load: 332 L/h (87.7 gal/h) at full standby, 230 L/h (60.8 gal/h) at 75% prime load, and 164 L/h (43.3 gal/h) at 50% prime load. The engine uses a two-pump, two-loop cooling system with Cummins Turbo Technologies turbocharging for enhanced emissions control and improved thermal efficiency.
BCC1010S-60 Key Features and Construction
The BCC1010S-60 is built to the same robust standards that define Broadcrown's entire large-frame generator lineup. The fully welded steel baseframe incorporates lifting and jacking points for straightforward installation, and heavy-duty rubber anti-vibration mountings are fitted as standard to reduce structural load transmission during operation.
A factory-fitted radiator with pressure cap and drain point, a fully guarded engine-driven fan, and spin-on oil and fuel filters with a dry-type air filter element keep routine servicing straightforward. The 24V starting system is supported by dedicated batteries and connecting cables, alongside a separate engine-driven battery charging alternator rated at 55A.
An industrial silencer is supplied loose for flexible positioning, and a wide range of fuel system and optional feature configurations are available to match specific site requirements.
Alternator Specifications
The BCC1010S-60 is fitted with a Stamford single-bearing alternator in a direct-coupled configuration, designed for 3-phase, 4-pole output at a power factor of 0.8. The alternator features self-excited operation with an automatic voltage regulator maintaining tight voltage regulation across variable load conditions, making it well suited to sensitive electrical environments.
Class H insulation ensures reliable operation across a wide ambient temperature range, and the winding configuration supports the full range of available output voltages from 220/127V through to 480/277V without requiring hardware changes in many configurations. Backed by Cummins Generator Technologies' global support network, the alternator is designed and tested to match the power output characteristics of the QSK38 engine precisely.
BCC1010S-60 Control System and Options
The standard control package is the BC 7210, based on the Deep Sea Electronics DSE7210 Digital Auto Start controller, providing both manual and fully automatic remote start capability. The LCD display monitors all key operating parameters in real time, including coolant temperature with high temperature protection, oil pressure with low pressure shutdown, output volts, amps, frequency, engine operating hours, and battery voltage.
Upgraded control options are available for applications requiring enhanced monitoring or parallel operation. The BC 7310 and BC 7320 systems add pre-alarms for low oil pressure and high coolant temperature, digital display of kW, kVA, and power factor, over and under voltage protection, over current protection, and full RS485 telemetry with SAE J1939 CANBus integration.
For sites requiring synchronized parallel operation, the BC 7510 supports set-to-set synchronization, while the BC 7520 provides single set-to-mains synchronization, making the BCC1010S-60 a scalable solution for growing power demands.
