Basler Basler Automatic Voltage Regulators
A generator is only as good as the power it puts out, and the voltage regulator is the part that keeps that power clean and steady. At General Power, we supply Basler automatic voltage regulators for new builds, repairs, and upgrades. We are an original equipment manufacturer, master distributor, and authorized dealer based in Miami, Florida, so buyers get real parts from a source they can trust.
How a Basler AVR Keeps Generator Voltage Steady
A Basler AVR reads the voltage coming out of the alternator many times each second. It compares that reading to the set point you choose. If the voltage drops when a large motor starts, the regulator sends more current to the exciter field. If the voltage climbs when a load shuts off, it sends less.
This quick correction protects the equipment connected to your generator. Lights stay even, motors run cooler, and electronics avoid harmful swings. The regulator works hand in hand with the alternator on your generator set, so the two parts must be matched with care.
AVRs For Both Analog and Digital Systems
Basler builds regulators for small standby sets and large power plants. Analog models like the SR6A and SR8A are common replacements on older machines, while digital systems like the DECS250 and DECS400 add software setup, metering, and more protection. Depending on the model, features may include:
- Underfrequency protection that lowers voltage when engine speed drops
- Overexcitation shutdown that guards the exciter field from too much current
- Soft start that raises voltage slowly at startup
- Paralleling inputs that let two or more generators share a load
- Communication ports that connect to digital generator controllers
Not every model carries every feature, so check the spec sheet first. Other models, such as the XR2004, give you more choices. We also carry voltage regulators for other alternator brands.
Details to Confirm Before Ordering a Basler AVR
The fastest way to get the right regulator is to gather a few facts from your generator first. Most of them are printed on the alternator nameplate or on the label of the old regulator. Having them ready helps us confirm a match on the first call. Here is what to have on hand:
- The part number of the regulator you are replacing
- The sensing voltage and whether it is single phase or three phase
- The exciter field voltage and current at full load
- The operating frequency, either 50 Hz or 60 Hz
- The power source for the regulator, such as shunt, auxiliary winding, or permanent magnet generator
If you cannot find one of these details, send us a photo of the nameplate and we will help. A failed regulator can also point to other worn components, so it is smart to inspect diodes and wiring at the same time. We stock replacement alternator components so you can finish the repair in one order.
